I finally watched everything everywhere all at once???

forbidden bagel?? or eclipse??

I had forgotten that the eclipse was happening until Monday morning. Then I found myself outside, wholly unprepared. What was I planning to do? Probably stare at the ground at the weird little shadows and then call it a day.

But a pair of neighbors saw us standing there with naked, vulnerable, mortal eyes, and handed us their eclipse glasses. They were done and were heading back inside, anyway.

We thanked them profusely, and that was how I saw the eclipse through a pair of borrowed glasses. A few minutes later, we walked down the street and handed our glasses to a couple who looked like they were coming back from an errand. Maybe they had also forgotten about the eclipse. Still, they were thrilled to receive our traveling glasses, and I hope they felt something magical looking up at the sky through them.

These moments that remind us of our interconnectedness feel so far and few between these days. I am trying to hold on to that feeling like a sacred gift, like the precious memory of the moon slotting neatly over the sun, casting its shadow through space and heavens and sky all the way down to the ground beneath our feet.
